The Sonora Pine – Full Live Show 9/15/97

I have a new YouTube video out today.

This time out it is the entire show of The Sonora Pine that I filmed in 1997 at Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando, Florida. The video has been sitting on my shelf so I thought I’d share it with anyone interested.

I added in some commentary at the beginning including showing some of the unique merchandise I bought from them at their table.

The original review of this show (with Tsunami) is here:

I have to do that thing where everyone says “like” and “subscribe”. Please do! I am toying with the idea of a new non-music channel. Anyone interested?

  1. Since you were going to cool shows at this club in this era, I have to ask if you saw the remarkable glam / goth / ‘gaze / grunge band Plexi there, I believe in ‘97. I’ve seen an elaborate poster from that show. They previously opened on Archers Of Loaf’s ‘95 tour of the Southeast. (I saw a free show by Plexi in ‘97 outside the Aquarium in New Orleans.) Never caught the Sonora Pine, but I saw many a post-rock-y act in the late ‘90s, e.g. June Of ‘44, Dianogah, Low, Tortoise, Skeleton Key, Hovercraft (mind-blowing), Macha (ditto), Trans Am, the Arbor Lee, & the tedious post-Slint funkers King Kong. I miss this eclectic era before post-rock got codified to mean “predictably crescendoing soft/loud instrumental guitar rock” thanks to Explosions In The Sky, Caspian, MONO, This Will Destroy You, etc. (That didn’t stop me from seeing MONO 4 or 5 times.)
