@ Stardust. Winter Park, Florida. Sunday October 18, 2009.
Review, video and pictures by Jeffrey Howard.

It's a rare occasion anymore that I get out to shows where I have heard or previewed any of the bands playing. Even if I had I would not have found anything. All these bands/artists are so "underground" they don't even have Myspaces (that I could find).

The first artist to play was Lesson Lesson Lessen Relearn, which is is a solo project from Nelson from What's Yr Damage. He played in the bathroom adjacent to the main stage. The audience had to stand on the stage and watch through the door. I couldn't see in to well but it sounded like he was manipulating samplers and mini keyboards.

The next two bands would be almost identical. Neon Blud and Slavescene are two bands from the Tampa area that share the same bassist and drummer. Both bands were loud as fuck. The drummer played with such intensity it was like his life depended solely on how hard he could play. In fact, he broke some of his equipment and ended up hurling his drum sticks to the back of the audience. Neon Blud featured the female bassist on vocals. For Slavescene they switched guitarists and had a male lead singer. They were pretty intense.

Mr Transylvania is a solo vocal project. I don't know his name but I think I recognize him from playing The Trapper Keeper several years ago in his underwear. Something called Werewolves or something. Hmmmmm. He made complete use of the room, from the stage to going into the crowd. No chair was left un stood on. It was a little hard to hear everything he was singing but some of it was pretty witty.

Closing out was Gainesville's Diet Cokeheads (not to be confused with Co-ed Cokehead from Melbourne) who are two girls and one guy that play sludgy aggressive rock and roll not to far from the Touch and Go tree. I thought they sounded like Tulips mixed with a little Jesus Lizard and Tar for good measure. The guitarist and bassist share vocals. The punchy bass lines were smoking hot! I bought their 7" on Ventriculoperitoneal Sound Records and on the inside it said edition of sixty. Who makes just sixty 7"s?
