Doll Parts, Death Mites.
@ Peacock Room. Orlando, Florida. Friday August 21, 2009.
Review, videos and pictures by Jeffrey Howard.

It's been over a year since I first saw Clearwater all-girl punk band Doll Parts. They've been playing together for about three years and this was the first trip to Orlando that I ever heard about. Doll Parts were good then and even better now. Returning to the band is their original drummer Molly. These girls are all super cute, super good and super tough; a dangerous combination. Dare I say super dangerous? Ha! I'm sure boys run in fear of their greatness.

Death Mites opened. I've seen their name around and listened to them briefly on the internet. It seemed all right online. In person, however, they come across as a band with a serious identity crisis. I don't know how to describe them other than they mishmash folksy indie rock (ala Decemberists) led by a punk rock singer/guitarist (insert late 90's Cali punk band here). They've got computers, violins, keyboards, mandolin, trumpet, shuffly drums and those punk accent nasally vocals. Once you've gone to the pop punk lifestyle can you really re-invent yourself?
