Garbo's Daughter, Magic and the Johnsons, Hot Hands.
@ Uncle Lous. Orlando, Florida. Sunday August 9, 2009.
Review, videos and pictures by Jeffrey Howard.

What to do on a lazy Orlando Sunday? Well, how about rockin' it up with an early and late show? Sounds good to me. Originally Garbo's Daughter was to play host to California band Pipsqueak and Italian band Ultra Twist. But they canceled the day before the show. What? Florida too good for those guys? I guess so. These out of state bands don't know what they're missing. In true fashion Hot Hands and Magic and the Johnsons filled in to take their spots. It was a good crowd that got more filled as doors to the late show were approaching. The guys from Jacuzzi Boys and Davila 666 were roaming around.

Hot Hands were pretty messy. We hadn't really practiced and the kinks had to be worked out of the Kustom PA we were using. I think we were both glad when our set ended. This lead to a really good Magic and the Johnsons set. Sam and Tim have they gotten good in just a short few months. Garbo's Daughter were in fine form. Prolly one of their best shows so far. You MUST watch the videos from this show. They are below the pictures. When the show was over everyone packed up and walked over to Wills Pub (it's on the next block) for the Davila 666/Jacuzzi Boys show.

Davila 666, Jacuzzi Boys, Slippery Slopes.
@ Wills Pub. Orlando, Florida. Sunday August 9, 2009.
Review, videos and pictures by Jeffrey Howard.

The early show was pretty good and with the late show a block over from Uncle Lou's, the gettin' was only gettin' better. Davila 666 was coming all the way over from Puerto Rico for a full tour of the U.S. over three months. I've been listening to the new Davila 666 album on In The Red Records for a few months now and it's pretty awesome. On the surface it sounds like a lo-fi garage band but after a few listens you can hear other influences from punk to britpop. Davila 666 is a fresh take on rock and roll and I couldn't wait to see them.

Orlando's Slippery Slopes were the openers. Members from the band actually took a trip earlier in the year just to check them out. They brought back tales how awesome their live show was. Talk about hype! The Slopes rocked out like they always do. Britches is still in jail and getting out soon!

Playing on all the Florida dates on the Davila 666 tour was Miami's heroes Jacuzzi Boys. They've been all over the US this year and are driving interest towards their new album coming out on Orlando label Florida's Dying. If their current live show is an indication of what their album will be like....... well, look out...... no doubt it's going to be good. They played a lot of new songs as well as several really old ones that I haven't heard them play in a long time.

In a whirlwind Davila 666 came and left. I think they made a believer out of everyone in the room. I don't know how a Spanish speaking band can get a room of English speaking people to be singing songs in another language (for some, just yelling is okay) at the top of their lungs...... but those five guys did. It also helps to have sing-alongable songs. Those guys were all over the stage, all of them singing at once. Everyone was dancing. Great show. Great band.
