@ Wills Pub. Orlando, Florida. Sunday June 6, 2010.
Review, videos and pictures by Jeffrey Howard.

I just saw The Spits and Nobunny in Tallahassee three days earlier (my band opened) at a really big venue so seeing it again at Wills Pub, in comparison really tiny, would be a totally different experience. The last time Nobunny came through was two years ago at Wills Pub (link below). In these parts the show is legendary in all kinds of ways-one being it was the very first show ever in the new Wills Pub (and broke it in process). Even before it had a stage--- and air conditioning. The Spits hadn't been to Orlando for even longer. I think it was sometime in 2004 with the Black Lips at the old Wills Pub. Needless to say anticipation was in the air.

Opening was The Sexcapades, a newish local band fronted by "Lil Patrick" on guitar and lead vocals. Backing him is Sam Metro (Magic and the Johnsons, The Shreds, Weak Ends) on bass and Owen Nicolas (Lagues) on drums. They're going for a catchy punk rock sound that almost takes off but doesn't quite pick up enough momentum to sustain itself, mainly because it seems they haven't congealed as a band. It was a little too messy to be anything outstanding. If executed right they have the potential to rock some faces off.

Slippery Slopes were out to make a spectacle from the start. They are the premiere party band in town so when it's one of their birthdays you can expect them to party exponentially. Within seconds of the first songs singer Erik Grincewicz, donning in a blonde wig and pink sweatshirt, was squirting around silly string everywhere. Beer flying in the air would be next. Luckily, someone smart had the idea to cover the walls with plastic protecting the art hanging on the walls. Just when you thought it couldn't get any messier a penis shaped cake lit with candles made its way to the stage- drummer/birthday boy Rich Evans blew out the candles while still playing only to have it dumped in his lap right after. Red velvet cake was everywhere. Slippery Slopes also delved into their krazy-punk alter ego band Diaper and the Shitbags, which they do occasional shows of, adding that's bands songs into their own set list.

Believe it or not- there was plenty of party left over for Nobunny to take advantage of. He started out with a slow drinking song "The Gutter", which they didn't perform in Tallahassee, and moved onto new material like "Hocus Pocus" which is on the Party Platter compilation that Florida's Dying Records just put out. Wills Pub was transformed into a garage rock dance club the rest of the set. The videos (found below) I filmed right in the thick of it may not look so good- just sound okay.

The Spits were good again, too. Those guys play twenty song sets. They added in a Dicks song for good measure- the same one Jeanie and the Tits used to cover.
