Friday night: Smith Westerns, Plexi 3, Estrogen Highs, Garbo's Daughter. Saturday day: Jacuzzi Boys, Melted Sunglasses, Slippery Slopes, Brian's Dirty Business, Lil Daggers. Saturday night: Hibachi Stranglers, TeePee, Dead Luke, Psychedelic Horseshit. Sunday day: Ghost Hospital, Electric Bunnies, Pink Reason.

There wasn't too much time between the day show at the record store and the night show back over at Crooked Bayou. First to play was Eric Zareno's "solo" project TeePee, which tonight he was backed with a full band. I must say this performance was just about mind-blowing, one of the highlights of the festival for sure. I've probably mentioned before Eric is someone to take notice of, he's good at everything he has a hand in.

Up next was Alabama's Hibachi Stranglers, who, if you remember from a couple of years ago, didn't receive such a good review from me. So three years later I am a changed man. I think they are awesome. Their songs are a driving pulsating ear assault. Rockin' stuff!

They were followed by Dead Luke, a one man band from Wisconsin. I think he is part of the "shitgaze" music movement, a genre that takes lo-fi to an all-time low. He started out with a Led Zeppelin cover of "When the Leevee Breaks", Victor from The Electric Bunnies sang over Dead Luke's guitar and wah wah pedal. The video is below. Pretty terrible. Maybe it's pretty great if your wasted? I had a few beers and still didn't like it. Dead Luke then did a couple of solo noise songs and ended with a few Suicide covers with Kevin (from Psychedelic Horseshit and Pink Reason) on vocals. Suicide they were not. Though they wish they were half as good.

Psychedelic Horseshit, from Ohio, are probably the top offender in the "shitgaze" movement. I've seen them before and I was astounded at how bad they were. I guess that's the point? You could tell there was something credible behind the music in their heads.... somewhere; but the execution falls flat. Tonight's set did not change my opinion, though I did find it amusing they took forever to set up (there is just two of them this tour), and took a long weed break before playing. It was mind blowingly awful. The thing was, the audience was LOVING IT. Not just watching- LOVING IT, getting into it, running around like their savior was in the room. The looks on people's faces whose music taste I normally would admire astounded me. What is it I'm not getting? Is it better on record? Is it just a bad live show? Did I mention one of their gimmicks is they use cardboard boxes in place of a bass drum. Isn't that just amazing *sic*. I'm not a fan. I'd recommend Deluxx, Sentridoh, Grifters in place of these shitgaze bands. I left before they finished playing. I don't walk out on many bands because they are terrible.
